HCS SB 873 -- CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS SPONSOR: Gibbons (Lipke) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Crime Prevention and Public Safety by a vote of 13 to 0. This substitute authorizes the State Highway Patrol to conduct name or fingerprint background checks on gubernatorial appointees who are subject to Senate confirmation. Information received by the patrol must be kept confidential and cannot be disclosed to anyone except the Governor or members of the Governor's staff as necessary to determine the appointee's qualifications. The substitute also increases the fees for requests of criminal history record information. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on General Revenue Fund in FY 2007, FY 2008, and FY 2009. Estimated Income on Other State Funds of $2,408,533 to $2,818,333 in FY 2007, $3,520,360 to $3,985,000 in FY 2008, and $4,193,840 to $4,685,000 in FY 2009.
